The core of our organization is community support, with the arts at large and more specifically the state of filmmaking being one mired in industry wide compromise, keeping local creatives feeling that no matter the state of the creative economy, that they have the full support of their community across any project, venture, idea or approach. Through efforts like our community access media arts office “The Apple Box” above the historic Garland Theater, and managing our fully insured, free to access community equipment cage, and monthly open writers nights, we do everything we can to show the community that we take their need for support seriously.
Working with industry partners across Spokane, Greater Washington and the film industry at large, we have developed employment pipelines for newcomers hoping to find their way onto professional sets, and helping bridge any training gaps by giving them access to professional level equipment, and seasoned mentors to guide them along their specific pathways. Through efforts like our “Set Experience System” producing local short films and short form documentaries partnered with other local nonprofits such as SCAR and Spokane Pride, we equip newcomers with the narrative understanding, professional tools and industry standard practices to get them set ready with the full confidence needed to succeed.
Spokane offers a world class indie filmmaking and television production market, the city itself essentially functioning as one giant backlot. With an incredible level of location diversity and creative control that rivals any other market within our budget window. By maintaining relationships with past clients, and reaching out to filmmakers nationwide to help raise the profile of Spokane not only as a market to bring projects to, but an ecosystem through which projects can be developed driven by local talent, stabilizing our creatives makes us masters of our own fate in a way that few other markets can offer.
